UWI/GOJ Launch Pilot Public Sector Management Internship Programme

The University of the West Indies, Mona through the Department of Government and the Government of Jamaica launched the Public Sector Management (PSM) Internship Pilot Programme on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Jamaica House. Speaking at the launch, Cabinet Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Ambassador Douglas Saunders noted that the internship programme would help to build maanagement capabilities and improve the job readiness skills of Public Sector Management entrants. Dr. Eris Schoburg, Lecturer in Public Sector Managemnent, UWI, Mona added that the philosophy of the programme is “simultaneously theory-led and practice driven”.  Nine UWI students pursing a major in Public Sector Management will be a part of the first cohort to participate in the six week PSM  Internship Programme which began on June 1 in the Ministries of Transport and Works, Health, Justice and Youth, Sports and Culture.

Professor Gordon Shirley, Principal, UWI, Mona and Ambassador Saunders signed the Memorandum of Understanding to signal the partnership of the internship programme.
