8th William Dennis Memorial Lecture

The 8th annual William Dennis Memorial Lecture takes place on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 5 pm at the Main Medical Lecture Theatre located at the University Hospital of the West Indies. For this year two lectures will be delivered by UWI, Mona academics: Professor Terrance Forrester, Head, Tropical Medicine Research Institute, University of the West Indies and Dr. Tomlin Paul, Deputy Dean in the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Senior Lecturer, Community Health and Psychiatry.
Professor Forrester’s lecture is titled, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Disease: How Far back for the Answer? His lecture will explore the links between metabolism, body composition, insulin resistance and hypertension.
The second lecture which is being delivered by Dr. Paul speaks to the topic, Medical Student Consumerism at UWI. The lecture examines the trend towards a consumer culture in light of contemporary approaches to medical education.
The evening will also feature recollections on William Dennis’ role as mentor and teacher by Dr. Carolyn Pinnock, a graduate of the Doctor of Medicine (Paediatric Surgery).
