UWI to Screen Documentary Film on the Life of Historian and Activist, Walter Rodney

The Institute of Cultural Studies, UWI, Mona as part of the annual Walter Rodney Lecture Series will host the new documentary, “W.A.R. Stories: Walter Anthony Rodney”, directed by Clairmont Chung on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 5:30 pm at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), UWI, Mona.. The film covers the life of world renowned, historian, author and activist Dr. Walter Rodney who was assassinated on Friday, June 13, 1980, at age 38, in his native Guyana. 

The documentary explores Rodney’s personal and ideological development. It examines his involvement in the 1968 ‘Rodney riots’ in Jamaica, Southern Africa's struggle for independence and civil rebellion in Guyana. It features luminaries including publisher, Walter Bgoya of Tanzania, a personal friend and confidant of former President Julius Nyerere, Dr. Clive Thomas, Dr. Rex Nettleford, Dr. Leith Mullings, Amiri Baraka and Dr. Rodney’s daughter, Asha Rodney.
