UWI Graduate Receives Prime Minister Youth Award

Olivia Rose, a graduate of the Masters of Science in Applied Psychology and Psychology tutor at UWI, Mona was named the Prime Minister's Youth Awardee for Excellence in the category of Academic Excellence at a ceremony held recently.
Ms. Rose was recognized for her outstanding work which examined the impact of mental preparation on athletic performance. Her research was conducted with the UWI, Mona Track and Field team and investigated the importance of mental preparation to achieve optimal performance in competition. The research studied how controlling anxiety provoking situations could increase the performance of athletes. Results show that psychological training of athletes can make an important impact on athletes’ performance and preparation for competition. This preparation can also improve athletes’ performance in other spheres of life.
