Mona Homecoming Celebrations Continue with Parade & Flag Raising and Caribbean Day

The UWI Mona Homecoming Celebrations continue on Thursday, February 18, 2010 with a Parade starting at the Students’ Union at 3 pm and ends at the Assembly Hall to kick off the Flag Raising Ceremony scheduled for 5 pm.  The march will include representatives from the alumni, halls of residences, island associations, staff, clubs, and societies lead by members of the first class of the University and accompanied by entertainers. The flags of contributing countries will be flown as a symbol of the regional nature of the University.

The UWI, Mona as part of the Homecoming Celebrations, hosts Caribbean and International Day on Friday, February 19, 2010 starting at 12 noon at the Flagpole Area (on the lawns facing the Assembly Hall). This is an occasion where the University highlights its regional nature through a cultural display of food, music, dance and booth display and also includes a display from the international student population at UWI, Mona. The day’s activities consist of a food tasting experience and a lunch hour concert starting at 1 pm with MC Jenny Jenny.

Each year, the celebrations are dedicated to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the institution. For 2010 the honoree will be Dr. Patricia Martin-DeLeon, UWI Mona Graduate and Trustees Professor of Biological Sciences, University of Delaware. The Mona Homecoming Celebrations include: the UWI Gatorade Invitational Track Meet on Saturday, February 20 at 9 am at the National Stadium followed by the Dinner at 7 pm at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre.
