The UWI, Mona, through the Science, Mathematics and Information Technology (SMIT) Centre in collaboration with the Caribbean Institute for Mathematical Sciences (CIMS) presents a one day seminar on Mathematics and Mathematics Education, on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 1:30 pm at the Multifunctional Room, UWI, Mona. The seminar centres around presentations on the development of the mathematical sciences in Cuba by two distinguished professors of mathematics from the Universidad de La Habana. Professor Baldomero Valino Alonso will deliver a presentation entitled, “Preparing Wide Profile Mathematicians in Cuban Universities”; Professor Jose Fidel Hernandez will deliver a presentation titled, “Algebra for Mathematicians”. The presentations will be followed by a special question and answer / discussion session.

The seminar is aimed at educators, teachers and students in mathematics and science as well as mathematics and science education. The university community as well as the general public are also invited to attend.
