Symposium In Honour of the Late Professor the Hon. Rex Nettleford

The Hugh Lawson Shearer Trade Union Education Institute (HLSTUEI), Open Campus, UWI in collaboration with the Mona Campus, UWI has organized a symposium in honour of the late Professor Emeritus, Professor Rex Nettleford. The three-day symposium takes place from April 7-9, 2010 at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge, UWI, Mona. The symposium will discuss Professor Nettleford’s vision on the edification of workers and share ideas for crafting strategies to help Jamaican and Caribbean workers’ move forward to achieve sustainable competitive advantages in their countries and the region.

Dubbed, “The Sage Has Come of Age”, the symposium will begin with an opening ceremony on Wednesday, April 7 at 6 p.m. Professor Emeritus George Eaton will be the guest speaker at the opening ceremony and he will evaluate the HLSTUEI and Nettleford’s philosophical orientation. The remaining two days of the symposium will see more leading practitioners and seasoned professionals in various disciplines discussing the work and legacy of Professor Nettleford.  Invited speakers will include Professor Tony Bogues, Brown University; Professor Rupert Lewis, UWI, Mona; Mrs. Judith Wedderburn, Social Worker and Activist; Dr. Jahlani Niaah, Cultural Studies Lecturer, UWI, Mona, Mr. Lloyd Goodleigh, President, Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions and Drs. Judith Soares and Adrian Fraser, Heads, Open Campus, UWI.
