29th Annual West Indian Literature Conference

The Department of Literatures in English, UWI, Mona hosts the 29th Annual Conference on West Indian Literature, at Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre, the UWI, Mona on April 29 to May 1, 2010.

This year’s conference themed, “Caribbeanscapes: The Vistas of Caribbean Literature” features a literary reading dubbed “The Festival of the Word” on April 29 at 7 pm with Lorna Goodison, Shara McCallum, and David Chariandy as the headliners. The Conference continues with plenary presentations beginning daily at 9 am featuring sixty (60) local and regional presenters. These presenters will include:  Barbara Lalla, Professor of Language and Literatures, Department of Liberal Arts, UWI, St Augustine, Lorna Goodison, internationally acclaimed poet and Lemuel A. Johnson, Collegiate Professor of English and Afro-American and African Studies, University of Michigan. The Conference will also feature discussion sessions and lunch hour readings by various Caribbean writers.

The University community and the public are invited to attend. The Conference is free.
