The Official Opening of the UWI Open Campus Jamaica in Mandeville

As the Open Campus of the University of the West Indies continues to improve and expand its services across Jamaica and the Caribbean region, the official opening of the new Mandeville site in central Jamaica will take place on Friday, May 7, 2010 at the Caledonia Mall in Mandeville. The guest speaker for this ceremony will be the Honorable Andrew Holness, Minister of Education, Jamaica.

The University of the West Indies has had a presence in Mandeville for the past two decades as the former UWI Distance Education Centre (UWIDEC), under the umbrella of Church Teachers’ College, the hosting institution. At the launch of UWI Open Campus in 2008, and in keeping with its commitment to expand its reach and level of service to Jamaica, the decision was made to establish an independent site in Mandeville.

The new Mandeville Site located at Unit 1b, 17 Caledonia Mall, Mandeville will feature a more spacious and student-friendly campus with additional computer labs and educational facilities.

Following the official opening ceremony on Friday, May 7, 2010 and during the week of May 10 - 14, 2010, students and the general public are invited to visit the Mandeville site to find out more about programme offerings available.
