The University of the West Indies, (UWI) Mona has taken note of the limited state of emergency which has been declared by the Government of Jamaica and the conditions which obtain as a result of this. Consequently, select activities scheduled at UWI, Mona have been postponed until further notice. These include: 
•    The public lecture entitled, “Global Crisis and Its Impact on the Caribbean” scheduled for Tuesday, May 25 at 5 pm at the Mona School of Business, UWI, Mona.
•    The second symposium in the Micro, Small and Medium –sized Enterprise (MSME) Symposia Series planned for Wednesday, May 26.
•    Hurricane Awareness Forum, “Nature’s Fury”, scheduled for Wednesday, May 26.
•    Launch of the book, “Six Jamaican Educators” authored by Professor Hyacinth Evans set for Wednesday, May 26.
•    The Child Rights Workshop for Primary School teachers scheduled for Thursday, May 27 at Sir Arthur Lewis Institute for Social and Economic Studies (SALISES), UWI, Mona.
•    7th Caribbean Reasonings Conference on the Work of Gordon K. Lewis set for June 3-5

The University Singers Concert Season scheduled for May 27 to June 27 has been postponed. The Season is now expected to start on June 9. For more information telephone 702-3518.

However the third Regional Midwifery Conference planned for May 26-28, 2010 will take place as scheduled at a new venue, The UWI School for Nursing (UWISON) in light of the unrest in areas of Kingston. In addition the public lecture titled, Ethiopia Speaks Jamaican Creole: Voices of Shashamane will take place as planned on Wednesday, May 26 at 5 pm the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre, UWI, Mona.

Nevertheless, The UWI, Mona reminds the UWI community and public that their personal safety and security is of paramount importance and that this should be the very first consideration in any assessment of whether to attend these events.
