Book Launch -“Six Jamaican Educators”

“Six Jamaican Educators” is the title of the book written by Professor Hyacinth Evans, Professor of Teacher Education, School of Education, UWI, Mona. The book is being launched on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 5 pm at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona. It details the contribution of six Jamaican educators who have helped in the development of the Jamaican education system and in providing increased access to secondary and tertiary education for poor Jamaicans from the 1940’s to the 1990’s.
The book is divided in two parts; the first section describes the method of narrative research and is followed by description of the social and economic conditions that existed in Jamaica during the early years of the twentieth century when most of the interviewees made their contributions to education. These initial chapters also provide some background to a secondary education system that excluded the majority of Black Jamaicans.
The university community and the public are invited to the launch.
