Dr. Bewaji Receives The Guggenheim Fellowship

Dr. John Bewaji, Lecturer, Department of Language, Linguistics and Philosophy has been named a Fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. He has been awarded the prestigious fellowship to further his research in the area of Africana philosophy: a critical engagement which starts in August 2010.

His research will provide an original resource material in Africana Philosophy that addresses the numerous issues of text, argumentation, relevance and availability of a structured discussion in the area of Africana Philosophy.  This research will form a basis for the foundation and material for research and engagement at the undergraduate, graduate and policy making level. It will also serve as a stepping stone for other research as the research is the first of its kind. At the end of the Fellowship Dr. Bewaji intends to a produce publications such as manuals for teaching and research.

According to the Foundation’s website, “The Guggenheim Fellowships are intended for men and women who demonstrate exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts. The Fellowships are awarded through two annual competitions: one open to citizens and permanent residents of the United States and Canada, and the other open to citizens and permanent residents of Latin America and the Caribbean. The Foundation receives between 3,500 and 4,000 applications each year.
