The official opening of the Confucius Institute at the UWI, Mona took place recently. The major objective of the Confucius Institute at the University of the West Indies, Mona, is to promote the learning of Chinese Language and culture, function as a bridge between the Jamaica and Chinese people, and be a major resource centre for those wishing to learn about China.  The Institute seeks an active involvement with the Jamaican community, through several outreach programmes.

Beginning on the third week of September the public will be able to benefit from courses in Tai Chi (taijiquan), Chinese Language, Chinese Calligraphy and a film of the month. These activities will expose the average Jamaica to the rich history and culture of China, encouraging discourse in a pleasant environment.
