National Heritage Film Series

The University of the West Indies, Mona through the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work, UWI, Mona presents a film series to highlight Jamaica’s National Heritage and as part of a campaign to have October designated as National Heritage month. The first film in the Series entitled, “Towards Black Nationalism” is a feature on Marcus Garvey, Jamaica’s first national hero. It details the life of Marcus Garvey and the contribution to the black community and his involvement in black empowerment and nationalism. The showing takes place on Friday October 8, 2010 at 6 pm at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre. Other events that will be hosted as part of the efforts to highlight Jamaica’s heritage are: film showings, “Catch a Fire” and “Goodbye Uncle Tom” and the Peter Tosh Symposium.
The university and the public are invited to attend.
