The Department of Chemistry, UWI, Mona: The Early Years is the title of the book being launched by the Department of Chemistry and the Society of Alumni and Friends of the Chemistry Department on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 6:30 pm at the Founders’ Park at UWI, Mona. The book authoured by Professor Robert Lancashire and Professor Ken Magnus tells of the early years of the Department of Chemistry and shares interesting history of the Department and its accomplishments over the decades.

Ken Magnus was one of the first graduates from the then University College of the West Indies (UCWI) where he gained a BSc with first class honours.  He is also credited for establishing courses in Applied Chemistry and Food Chemistry. Professor Robert Lancashire is Professor of Computational Chemistry at the UWI, Mona. In 1994, he established the first website in the Caribbean, housed at the Department of Chemistry.

The university community and the public are invited.
