More Schools Participate in UWI, Mona Plastic Bottle Recycling Project

The University of the West Indies, Mona hosted the launch of the Expansion Phase of the UWI Environmental Outreach Plastic Bottle Recycling Project on Wednesday, January 5, 2010. The Expansion Phase will see thirteen (13) more primary, preparatory and high schools in the corporate area and St. Catherine participating in the Project. Thus far at least ten (10) schools in the Mona and Papine area are participating in the Project. Plans are also being put in place to expand the UWI Plastic Bottle Project to the UWI, Mona-Western Jamaica Campus.
The UWI Environmental Outreach Plastic Bottle Recycling Project is designed to facilitate environmental behavior modification among students and develop an institutional culture of plastic bottle recycling among participating institutions. UWI, Mona students from the Environmental Club will be partnering with select primary, preparatory and high schools to foster this culture of recycling. The Project is funded by the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica (EFJ).
