UWI Lecturer Explores Dancehall from the Slave Ship to the Ghetto

Dr. Sonjah Stanley Niaah, Lecturer in the Institute of Caribbean Studies, UWI, Mona launches her book, “Dancehall: From Slave Ship to Ghetto on Monday, January 31 at 6 pm at the Rex Nettleford Hall Multi-Purpose Room.

Dancehall: From Slave Ship to Ghetto is a noteworthy publication as it documents the institutional, industrial and cultural significance of Jamaican dancehall in local and transnational contexts looking through the lens of over 400 years of Black Atlantic performance history, and through the eyes of a Jamaican.

The launch will feature discussion and commentary on the book by notable scholars and industry giants including Professor Brian Meeks, Professor of Social and Political Change; Professor Wilma Bailey, Professor of Geography; Jerome Hamilton, Executive Director, Headline Entertainment; and, Nadine Sutherland, Recording Artist, among others.

The UWI community and the public are invited.
