Social Work Graduation

The Graduation exercise for the 40th Regional Four Month Course in the Principles and Practice of Social Work will take place at the Social Welfare Training Centre (SWTC) on Thursday, April 24 at 5:;0 p.m.  The SWTC of the School of Continuing Studies, UWI arranges annual Four Month Course, which brings together persons from many areas of the Caribbean and Latin America who are working in the broad field of social work.  The tutor/coordinator in Social Work, Lincoln Williams, is assisted by staff of over thirty-five part-time and full-time faculty members representing various disciplines related to social development.

This year there are forty (40) participants from six (6) countries – Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, British Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Montserrat and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.  The participants represent a wide range of social services, policing, counselling, religion, community development, social welfare, service clubs and youth work.

The three police officers from Jamaica had the opportunity to do a practicum training of two weeks at the University of Puerto Rico while the students from the Eastern Caribbean and some Jamaican students did their practicum training in social agencies in Jamaica.
