UWI, Mona Hosts the First Temple Fair in Jamaica

The Confucius Institute at UWI, Mona hosts a Temple Fair, the first of its kind in Jamaica on Friday, February 11, 2011 starting at 10 am at the Confucius Institute UWI, Mona. The Temple Fair will provide an authentic Chinese experience featuring Lion dancers, Tai Chi performers, Gu Zheng (harp) players, Chinese food, accessories and calligraphy. The event is a part of the Institute’s efforts to promote Chinese language and culture.

 The Confucius Institute supports local Chinese teaching through short courses in Chinese language (Mandarin), Tai Chi and Chinese Calligraphy. In addition interpretation and translation services are provided by the Institute.

Establishment of the Confucius Institute at Mona is part of an initiative to strengthen educational cooperation between China and Jamaica, support and promote the development of Chinese Language education, and increase mutual understanding among people in China and in Jamaica.
