UWI, Mona Hosts Annual Bob Marley Lecture on February 11

"Bob Marley and the Wailers Live! Performance and Politics in the Touring History of the Wailers" is the title of this year’s Bob Marley Lecture. Dr. Matthew Smith, Senior Lecturer in the Department of History and Archaeology, UWI, Mona will deliver the Lecture on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 6 pm at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), UWI, Mona. It is organized by the Institute of Caribbean Studies, UWI, Mona as part of the celebration to mark February as Reggae Month.

The lecture will examine the live performances of Bob Marley and the Wailers, in Jamaica and abroad, over their long history of touring. It explores the impact of the cultural, social and political conditions in Jamaica in the 1970s that shaped Bob Marley as a performer and contributed to his massive success as an international superstar.

The public is invited. Admission is free.
