UWI Mona Homecoming Set for February 10-13

The UWI Mona Campus hosts its grand Homecoming Celebrations from February 10-13, 2011. The celebrations begin with a Parade and Flag Raising Ceremony on Thursday, February 10, 2011. The Parade begins at 3 pm at Students’ Union and ends at the Assembly Hall to kick off the Flag Raising Ceremony scheduled for 5 pm.  The Parade will include student representatives, staff and alumni. 

The UWI, Mona Homecoming Celebrations continues with Caribbean and International Day on Friday, February 11 at 10 am the Flagpole Area. This is an occasion where the University highlights its regional nature through a cultural display of food, music, dance and booth display including a display from the international student population at UWI, Mona. The day’s activities consist of a food tasting experience between 12 noon and 2 pm and a lunch hour concert starting at 1 pm.

Additional the Mona Homecoming Celebrations will feature a football match with UWI vs Duhaney Park on Saturday, February 12 at 4 pm at the Mona Bowl. This match is a part of the KSAFA Super League matches.

The Celebrations culminate with a church service on Sunday, February 13 at 9 am at the UWI Chapel. The preacher will be Rev. Dr. Marjorie Lewis, President, United Theological College of the West Indies and UWI Graduate.

The observation of Mona Homecoming Celebrations (formerly, Commemoration Celebrations and Alumni Week) began in 2001 and provides an opportunity to celebrate the founding of the University and recognize its regional nature, while assisting to engender a greater sense of belonging and develop a feeling of camaraderie among staff, students and graduates.
