Book Launch: The Devil in the Details

The Devil in the Details: Cuban Antislavery Narrative In the Postmodern Age” is the title of the book being launched by Professor Claudette Williams, Professor of Hispanic Caribbean Studies and Head, Institute of Caribbean Studies, UWI, Mona. The book launch takes place on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 6 pm at the Multifunctional Room, Main Library, UWI, Mona. The guest speaker on this ocassion will be Dr. Conrad James, UWI graduate and Senior Lecturer in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Department of Hispanic Studies, University of Birmingham.

The book breathes new life into old stories about Cuban slavery about which so much has already been written. The book suggests other ways of viewing high-profile novels from the period, sheds light on compositions which have received little attention and provides a model for a balanced appraisal of the entire Caribbean region’s history and postcolonial reality.
