Public Forum: The Future of Social Work in the Caribbean

The University of the West Indies, Mona through the Social Work Unit in the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work will host a public forum on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 2 pm at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona. The Forum is a part of the Unit’s fiftieth (50th) anniversary celebrations. The event will focus on the future of Social Work in the Caribbean in the context of the global debate on the agenda for social work’s engagement in the 21st century.

Presenters at the Forum will include: the Hon. Claudia Groome Duke, Secretary for Education, Youth and Sports from the Tobago House of Assembly and a member of the first cohort of Master of Social Work, Carla Edie, CEO of the Child Development Agency, Courtney Brown, Director of Crime Prevention and Community Safety at the Ministry of National Security, Jamaica and Dr. Peta-Anne Baker, Coordinator, Social Work programme, UWI, Mona. 

The event comes on the heels of World Social Work Day which is observed on March 15. This year theme focuses on social work voices responding to the global crisis and shaping the agenda.

The public is invited to attend.
