Professor Silvia Kouwenberg, Professor of Linguistics will deliver her inaugural Professorial Lecture entitled, “The Future of Caribbean Linguistics”. The Lecture is schedule d to take place on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 5:30 pm at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), UWI, Mona.

This lecture contemplates the place of Caribbean-based research within the global discipline of linguistics. It examines the perspectives from which Caribbean linguistics is viewed. On this occasion Professor Kouwenberg will argue that the Caribbean linguistic research tradition, with its regional focus, can form the basis for meaningful dialogue with the global linguistic community and make a unique and important contribution to the field.
