“Yow”

The Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication, (CARIMAC) University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona in collaboration with Youth. Now, an outreach organization for Jamaican youth has produced a series of ten television magazine programmes called Yow now being aired on CVM Television on Fridays at 6:00 p.m. until the end of June.  Yow, which aims to promote responsible attitude about reproductive health among youth, is fast-moving and contains information, advice and promotes discussion of issues affecting youth.   It is presented by two young presenters one of whom is from CARIMAC while the other is from Youth.Now.  Produced with a grant of USA$30,000 from the USAID, the programme features drama, guest interviews, positive music videos and talented teens.  Yow is shot in studio and on location and seeks to highlight the role young people can play in changing attitudes, behaviours  and beliefs and replace myths surrounding reproductive health with solid, useable information and problem solving techniques.  The programmes are produced by CARIMAC using professionals and students as training is a part of the production process.
