The University of the West Indies’ Township Project will be hosting the first University Township Basic School Champs on Thursday May 12, 2011 starting at 9 am at the UWI Bowl. The event is a part of the University’s effort to build positive community relationships, and to play a leading role in the development of early childhood institutions of excellence in the Greater August Town Community.   UWI, Mona seeks to help in furthering the social, educational, physical and emotional development of the children who attend the schools, through a diverse range of activities and initiatives.  

The first University Township Basic School Champs is organized by the UWI Township Project in collaboration with the Association of Basic School Principals in Greater August Town and will see the participation of all nine (9) basic schools in the community. 

The university community and the public are invited to support the event.
