Helen Tiffin to Deliver Fourth Edward Baugh Distinguished Lecture

Professor Helen Tiffin will deliver the fourth Edward Baugh Distinguished Lecture on Sunday, June 5 in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1) at 11:00 am. She will speak on the topic "Small Islands, Strong Currents: The Significance of West Indian Literature". Now retired, Dr. Tiffin has been Professor of English at the University of Tasmania and the University of Queensland in Australia, and was also Professor of English at Queen’s University in Canada, where she held a Canada Research Chair.  Professor Tiffin is recognized as one of the leading scholars in the world in the area of postcolonial studies. She is the author of The Empire Writes Back: Theory and Practice in Postcolonial Literatures (1989; with Bill Ashcroft and Gareth Griffiths), regarded as a foundational text in postcolonial theory.

The Edward Baugh Distinguished Lecture is an annual event organized by the Department of Literatures in English, UWI, Mona in honour of Professor Emeritus, Edward Baugh. For more details on the Lecture interested persons may telephone 927-2217.
