UWI, Mona Hosts Distinguished Lecture on Medicine, Stem Cell and Biotechnology

The University of the West Indies, Mona in collaboration with Bio-Tech Research and Development Institute and the University of Technology has organized a Distinguished Lecture themed, “Medicine, Stem Cell and Biotechnology”. The Lecture will be delivered by Professor Gary Loake, Professor of Genetics and Genomics at the University of Edinburgh, UK. The event is set to take place on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 5:30 pm at the Chemistry Lecture Theatre (Chem 5), UWI, Mona.
 
In his lecture Professor Loake will discuss how plants have evolved with the capacity to synthesize a bewildering array of chemically diverse natural products, some of which have key therapeutic agents. The Lecture will explore the use of stem cell for medicinal purposes using biotechnology in an environmentally friendly platform for the sustainable production of a large variety of important plant natural products.
