The Department of Library and Information Studies, UWI, Mona presents a Summer Institute on Business Information Services and Resources from June 27-July 1, 2011 at UWI, Mona. The Programme is designed to offer Caribbean librarians and business and information professionals a unique opportunity to gain new knowledge and skills to position themselves to support growth and development. It is especially geared towards small and medium size enterprises operators.
 
Topics being explored include funding sources, proposal writing, e-government resources, understanding copyright, trademarks and standards and other legal issues, and business records management.  Presentations will be made by UWI academics namely: Professor Fay Durrant, Dr.  Paulette Kerr, Hyacinth Brown, John Aarons,  Ramnauth Sookraj , Yvonne Lawrence, Mark-Shane Scale, Barbara Gordon and Beverley Lashley and Dr. Lawrence Nicholson. The Programme will also feature local experts such as Harold Davis of Jamaica Business Development Centre (JBDC), Phillipa Davies of Jamaica Intellectual Property Organization(JIPO) and Edward Chin-Mook, CEO of Global Inks.  Small business owners, Khary Sharpe and Tyrone Wilson, will also share their experiences in accessing and using information.
 
Participants will be equipped with knowledge of techniques and technologies to access a range of available global and Caribbean business sources and services through interactive, practical sessions in the Programme.
 
The Summer Institute is the beginning of a thrust by the Department to offer courses on business information resources and services.
