CARICOM Energy Week which is celebrated this year from November 6-12, comes on the heels of a Energy meeting by CARICOM Energy Ministers at the Council for Organization Trade and Economic Development (COTED) earlier this year.  During the meeting the need for urgent action at the national levels to address the escalating challenges associated with increasing oil prices was underscored. As a result CARICOM Energy Week is being instituted in the second week of November to heighten awareness and provide information to the regional populace on sustainable energy options and the need for greater efficiency in the use of energy.

The Week is aimed at informing and educating the public about energy issues confronting Jamaica to stimulate thoughts, encourage discussions and initiate action in the area of energy conservation and efficiency and renewable energy. The Expo is funded by the University of the West Indies, Mona, The Ministry of Mining and Energy and UNDP.
