UWI, Mona Hosts Public Lecture Entitled "Returning Garvey to the Caribbean"

Professor Emeritus Robert Hill

“Returning Garvey to the Caribbean” is the title of the public lecture hosted by the Department of History and Archaeology, UWI, Mona on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 5:30 pm in the Multifunctional Room, Main Library, UWI, Mona. The Lecture will be delivered by Professor Emeritus Robert Hill, Professor Emeritus of History at UCLA and Editor in Chief of the multivolume edition of The Marcus Garvey & Universal Negro Improvement Association Papers.

Professor Hill will discuss the research he conducted in producing his recent publication, the monumental 11th Volume of his landmark series, The Marcus Garvey and UNIA Papers. Collecting an exhaustive array of primary material on Garvey and the activities of the UNIA in the Caribbean in the early twentieth century, the work sheds critical new light on the popularity and reach of Garveyism across the Caribbean diaspora. Professor Hill will highlight the intersections between developments in the Caribbean diaspora and the growth of one of the largest social movements of the twentieth century.

The university community and the public are invited to attend. For more details interested persons may telephone the Department at 927-1922.
