Filmmaker Chris Browne for March is Movie Month Series

“March is Movie Month at Mona”, a weekly series at UWI on Jamaican film, continues on Friday March 9 at 6 pm at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), UWI, Mona. This week features a presentation by Chris Browne entitled, “A Retrospective: The Work of Jamaican Filmmaker Chris Browne”. In his presentation Browne will speak about the challenges he has faced as a filmmaker in Jamaica and will show clips from his feature films as well as screen some of his short films.

Browne’s work is well known in Jamaica and beyond; he is the director of two very popular films, Third World Cop, released in 1999, and more recently, the highly acclaimed 2011 film Ghett’A Life. He has also made a documentary, Hard Road to Travel: The Making of The Harder They Come and a number of short films.

“March is Movie Month at Mona” is organized by the Department of Literatures in English in association with the Institute of Caribbean Studies, and features lectures, discussions or screenings every Friday during March at N1. The Series seeks to raise awareness and create interest in film studies as the Department of Literatures in English, in collaboration with the Institute of Caribbean Studies, prepares to introduce a Film Studies Minor in September 2012.

The public is invited to attend the Series.
