“Rastafari in the New Millennium” is the title of the Rastafari text being launched by the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 6 pm at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona.  Speakers on this occasion include, Professor Rupert Lewis, Garvey Scholar at UWI, Mona , Dr. Clinton Hutton, Pan- African Scholar and Lecturer, UWI, Mona and Mutabaruka, Rastafari commentator and radio personality. 
 
 The book is edited by UWI, Mona lecturer and Rastafari writer, Dr. Michael Barnett. Several UWI academics are also featured in the book including: Dr. Jahlani Niaah, Dr. Imani Tafari, Allan Bernard, the late Professor Barry Chevannes, Dr. Ian Boxill,, Dr. Anna Perkins, Dr. Lawrence Bamikole. Other notable contributions are also provided by Rastafari scholars namely: Adwoa Onuora, the late Maureen Rowe, Elliot Leib, Dr. Anita Waters, Dr. Janet DeCosmo, Dr. Obiagele Lake among others. 
 
 Rastafari in the New Millennium covers a wide range of perspectives, focusing not only on the movement’s nuanced and complex religious ideology, but also on its political philosophy, cosmology, and unique epistemology. Barry Chevannes’s essay addresses the concerns of death and repatriation, highlighting the transformative challenges these issues pose to Rastafari. Essays by Ian Boxill, Erin MaCleod, and Janet L. DeCosmo offer rich accounts of the globalization of Rastafari from New Zealand to Ethiopia, from Brazil to Zimbabwe. Drawing on new research and global developments, the contributors reinvigorate the critical dialogue on the current state and future direction of the Rastafari movement.
