Social Policy Panel Discussion

The Sir Arthur Lewis Institute for Social and Economic Studies at UWI, Mona has organized a panel discussion under the theme “Has Social Policy Achieved Anything since Independence?” The panel discussion takes place on Thursday, April 26 at 4:30 pm at the Jamaica Pegasus.
Presenters on this occasion include: Mrs. Hermione McKenzie, Dr. Pauline Knight, Mrs. Mary Clarke and Mrs. Faith Innerarity. This panel will be chaired by Dr. Orville Taylor, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work, UWI, Mona.
The panel discussion is a part of the SALISES 50/ 50 Research Programme which is reflecting on the past fifty years and providing directions for the next fifty. This will culminate with a SALISES Fifty-Fifty Conference to be held in August 2012 under the theme “Fifty-Fifty: Critical Reflections in a Time of Uncertainty.” As a prelude to this Conference, the Institute will examine varied sectors of the society with the aim of enhancing our knowledge of the role each has played in charting the history of Jamaica and the Caribbean at large, while suggesting how it may be best incorporated in the nation’s and region’s future plans. Social Policy forms an important element in this reflection.
