The Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC), UWI, Mona will host its second annual Aggrey Brown Distinguished Lecture on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 6 p.m., under the theme, “Media and Sport: Partners in National Development”. The Lecture will be delivered by the Hon. Mike Fennell, President of the Jamaica Olympic Association at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona Campus.

CARIMAC will also host a series of related radio and television panel discussions from May 13-22, 2012 to stimulate discussion on issues relating to media and communication disciplines including current research in sport, the training and managing of athletes, the business of sports and women in sport.

Director of CARIMAC, Dr. Canute James, says that having set the stage from the inaugural lecture delivered last year by President of the Media Association of Jamaica, Mr. Gary Allen, the second staging promises to unearth new perspectives while positioning CARIMAC at the forefront initiating discussion related to national development. The partnership of media and sport serves as a timely vehicle to move this discussion.

The CARIMAC/Aggrey Brown Lecture 2012 is one of the ways in which the Department has sought to honour its former Head,   the late Professor Emeritus,  Aggrey Brown, who played an integral role in shaping the lives of many of the region’s outstanding media and communication practitioners.
