Earthquake Lecture

Jamaica’s Earthquake Threat is the subject of discussion at the public lecture being organized by the Disaster Risk Reduction Centre at UWI. The Lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 5:30 pm at the Blue Room at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference, Centre, UWI, Mona. Dr. Lyndon Brown, Research Fellow and Head, Earthquake Unit, UWI will deliver the Lecture. 
 
His presentation will share about the finding of a recent sonar profiles in Kingston Harbour which has revealed the presence of previously unknown faults. It will also highlight the impact and the implications of the earthquake threat to eastern Jamaica. 
 
The lecture follows the 320th anniversary of the 1692 Port Royal Earthquake, June 7. Interested persons are invited to register in order to attend by e-mailing drrcuwi@uwimona.edu.jm or 977-1659. The university community and the public are invited to attend.
