Sir Shridath Ramphal to Launch Book on Caribbean Challenges

‘Caribbean Challenges- Sir Shridath Ramphal’s Collected Counsel,’ is the title of the book to be launched by Sir Shridath Ramphal, Chair, the Rex Nettleford Foundation, former Commonwealth Secretary General, former Chancellor of The University of the West Indies (UWI) and Warwick University and renowned Caribbean Scholar. The launch takes place on Monday, June 18, 2012, at 6 pm at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre, UWI, Mona.

The Most Hon. P J Patterson, former Prime Minister of Jamaica and Regionalist will deliver the main address. Patterson is also the recipient of the highest award in CARCOM, The Order of the Caribbean Community (OCC).

The book captures Sir Shridath’s work on the Caribbean’s journey to regional integration and critically assesses issues such as federation, law and diplomacy, leadership, external trade negotiations and the environment. Sir Shridath’s former offices of Deputy Attorney General of the West Indies Federation and Chairman of the West Indian Commission grant him ample perspective.

The publication comes at a timely juncture as 2012 marks 50 years since the collapse of the Federation and the Independence of Jamaica and of Trinidad and Tobago; twenty years since the West Indian Commission’s Report, twenty years since the Earth summit in Rio.

All proceeds from book sales will be donated to the Rex Nettleford Foundation.
