Public Lecture – Language in Jamaica

“Language in Jamaica –Then and Now: 50th Year Reflections” is the title of the public lecture organized by the Department of Language, Linguistics & Philosophy at UWI, Mona.  Professor Hubert Devonish, Coordinator,  Jamaica Language Unit at UWI, Mona will deliver the Lecture slated for Friday, September 28, 2012 at 5:30 pm at the Multi-functional Room.

This forum is especially timely as stakeholders are concerned about the 2012 CSEC results as well as the imminent entry of Jamaican Creole into the formal domain. The forum will reflect on the changes that have taken place in language attitude and language use over the last fifty years. It will also allow an opportunity to look to the future and plan the way forward.

Interested persons may contact the Department of Language, Linguistics and Philosophy to confirm attendance at 970-2950.
