UWI, Mona Hosts Daphne Douglas Distinguished Lecture in Her Honour

The Daphne Douglas Distinguished Lecture organized by Department of Library and Information Studies takes place on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 5:30 pm at the Faculty of Law Lecture Theatre. The Lecture seeks to hounour Professor Emerita Daphne Douglas for her contribution to Library and Information Science in the Caribbean and the development of the Department of Library and Information Studies at UWI, Mona.
 
The Lecture will be delivered by Professor Jeanette Allis Bastian, Associate Dean, Professor, and Director, Archives Management Concentration at Simmons College, Graduate School of Library and Information Science, Boston, MA, USA. Her presentation is entitled, “Local, Global, Virtual and for All: Information Technologies and Services Impacting Communities. 
 
Professor Douglas is the first Jamaican woman to be named professor and only one of three female professors, when she attained the title in 1974. Before she joined UWI, Douglas served the Jamaica Library Service for 15 years. Throughout her career as a librarian, she has served many international organizations dedicated to library science. In 1992, she was given the Order of Distinction for her work and was also honoured with the Institute of Jamaica's Silver Musgrave Medal in 2005.
