New Courses at CARIMAC

The Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication, (CARIMAC) at UWI Mona will be offering four new courses in communication come January 2004. Head of CARIMAC Drs. Marjan de Bruin says the Institute will offer three new certificate courses in Print and Online Journalism; Television and Broadcasting; and Public Relations; and a new master programme called Communication for Behaviour and Social Change. She noted that the programmes were born out of a need to diversity programmes offered at CARIMAC even as the institute works to improve its student selection process and increase its student intake. CARIMAC is the only regional institute for training, education and research in media and communication in the Anglophone Caribbean International Conference on Slavery. Professor Verene Shepherd participated in the international conference on the Legacy of Slavery in the Caribbean held at the World Trade Centre in Willemstad, Curacao from June 28 to July 1, 2003. Her paper, delivered at the University of the Netherlands Antilles, was titled "Caribbean Links: Slavery, Economy and Trade Routes".
