Pan African Research Team
A Pan African research team with membership from continental African countries, USA, Brazil and the Caribbean will meet in Jamaica from July 14 to 26 to continue research under the theme Spirituality and Materiality: Religion and Poverty. The group is examining whether it is a myth or fact that people of African heritage, where ever they are to be found, are usually at the lower economic strata of society because they are influenced by religion. The team will begin this aspect of its study with an opening session on Monday, July 14, at 9:00 a.m. at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Center at UWI, Mona. The keynote speaker will be Professor Errol Miller, Head of the Institute of Education, UWI Mona. The study will also take them to several communities and church projects around Jamaica. The team leaves the island on July 26.
