Professor Terrence Forrester, Head of the Tropical Medicine Research Institute at UWI Mona has been invited to join a distinguished group of experts on the Caribbean Commission on Health and Development. The Commission, appointed by the CARICOM Secretariat is intended to advance the region’s understanding of macro-economic issues in health development. It was set up to meet the objectives of the Nassau declaration adopted by the CARICOM Heads of Government in July 2001 which states that the health of the region is the wealth of the region. The Commission is mandated to advise on policy options to improve the financing and management of health systems in the Caribbean. The Commission, headed by Sir George Alleyne, is expected to function over an 18-month period and its first meeting will be held in August.
