Emancipation Lectures

Two lecturers in the Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Education, UWI, Mona will deliver special Emancipation Lectures to commemorate Emancipation Day being celebrated on August 1. Dr. Veront Satchell will deliver his lecture at the Bethel Baptist Church, Half Way Tree, Kingston, on Sunday, July 27 at 4:00 p.m. His topic will be "Emancipation and Reparation". Professor Verene Shepherd will deliver two Emancipation Lectures this year. The first will be at the Calvary Baptist Church in Montego Bay on Sunday, July 27 at 4.30 p.m. Her topic will be "Beside Every Successful Man: The Unsung Heroes of the Sam Sharpe Rebellion". The second will be at the Linstead Baptist Church on Friday, August 1 at 6:00 p.m. and the topic will be "But for the Grace of God: Emancipation, Legacy and Identity in Jamaica".
