Rhys D. Campbell, External Affairs Chairman 2003-2004, for the UWI Guild of Students, represented the Guild at the Annual Council Meeting and Seminar of the International Union of Students (IUS) from August 5 to 9 in Montreal, Canada. His visit was made possible through collaboration with the Jamaica Union of Tertiary Students (JUTS) and the five-day meeting focused on Issues of Globalisation. Mr. Campbell, also the International Affairs Coordinator for JUTS, presented a position paper to the IUS on behalf of all tertiary students in Jamaica addressing the topic the Liberalization of Education and the Challenges Facing Smaller Economies in the Formation of the Free Trade America of the Americas (FTAA). The IUS, a member of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), will forward the conference proceedings to the UNESCO Board of Directors Meeting in Paris, France.
