The JAMALCO Bauxite Company has given the island’s three Universities - University of the West Indies, (UWI), The University of Technology (UTech) and Northern Caribbean University, a number of reference books for use in their Libraries. The reference books are gifts from the Alcoa Foundation, USA. Local educational institutions have been benefitting from Alcoa Foundation’s assistance for the past 14 years. At the recent handing over ceremony, one of the UWI representatives, and Director of the Jamaica Chapter of the UWI Alumni Association, Celia Davidson-Francis thanked JAMALCO for its interest in the affairs of University students and its on-going efforts to assist educational institutions. She suggested that the programme could be further enhanced by identifying the specific areas of need of the beneficiary institutions before the books are acquired. In this way, the books that are given will be precisely targetted to the students and the various disciplines and faculties so that more students will be able to benefit.
