Amharic Language Course
The Institute of Caribbean Studies, UWI will be offering an introductory non-degree course in Amharic, one of the official languages of Ethiopia. Ethiopia holds special interest for many Jamaicans, and Amharic is used in the liturgy of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Jamaica. Amharic evolved from the ancient Ethiopian language, Ge’ez and is used in everyday speech in Ethiopia. Scheduled to run from September 8 to December 12, classes will be on Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Registration is limited to 20 persons.
