Mona Campus Matriculation and Welcome Ceremony
Some fifteen hundred new students participated in the Matriculation and Welcome Ceremony held at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus on Thursday, September 18. Racquel Yolanda Smith, the undergraduate student who entered the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus with the best academic results symbolically signed the register on behalf of the new students. Professor Elsa Leo Rhynie, Pro Vice Chancellor, Board for Undergraduate Studies, who represented the Vice Chancellor, formally recognized the new students. The gathering was addressed by Professor Kenneth Hall, Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal of the Mona Campus, Junior Rose President of the Guild of Students and Patricia Sutherland, President of the UWI Alumni Association (Jamaica Chapter).
A Matriculation Ceremony is the occasion on which new students are formally recognized as members of a University. Their acceptance into the academic community is marked by the signing of the Matriculation Register.
