Minister of Education Visits UWI Library
Minister of Education, Youth and Culture, The Hon. Maxine Henry Wilson, visited the UWI Library recently. On a brief tour of the facility, in the company of the Campus and Deputy Campus Librarians, she observed students throughout the Library and in the Mona Electronic Resource Information Centre (MERIC), in particular, busily accessing electronic resources such as databases, digitized articles, and the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). In another area, the Visually Impaired Students Technology Assisted Services (VISTAS), she experienced the use of the, Job Access with Speech (JAWS) software, which the Library has acquired for its visually impaired clientele. On the day she visited students were also receiving instruction in information literacy and the use of technologies to access resources and services. After viewing some of the Library treasures in the West Indian section, she was presented with a poster “The Land” by Edna Manley.
