Public Forum on Emancipation Park Monument
In celebration of Heritage Week, the Reggae Studies Unit at the University of the West Indies, Mona, is hosting a public forum on “Redemption Song”, the prize winning monument to emancipation from slavery, 1838, erected in the Emancipation Park. Panelists include Dr. David Boxer, Director Emeritus/Chief Curator of the National Gallery; Petrina Dacres, Assistant Curator, The National Gallery; Kamau Kambui, Architect of Emancipation Park; Dr. Alfred Sangster, Educator; Mutabaruka, public intellectual; and Barbara Blake Hanna, Journalist. The public is invited to attend the forum which takes place on Friday, October 24 at 5:30 p.m. in the Inter-Faculty Lecture Theatre, UWI, Mona.
