Medical Sciences 12th Annual Research Conference

Ageing Well: a Life Course Perspective is the theme of the 12th Annual Research Conference and Workshop which will be staged by the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the UWI, Mona Campus from November 12-14. The Opening Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, November 12 at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre, beginning at 5:30 p.m. One highlight of the ceremony will be the delivery of the Kenneth Standard Distinguished Lecture by Dr. Alexandre Kalache, Chief, Ageing and Health Promotion at the World Health Organisation.
The conference continues on Thursday, November 13 with sessions on topics including “Surgery and Anaesthesia”, “Metabolism and Nutrition”, “Mental Health and Behaviour, Obstetrics & Gynaecology & Child Health”. A workshop on the theme “Ageing Well: A Life Course Perspective” will be held on Friday, November 14. Discussion will focus on issues associated with ageing in the Caribbean. The workshop will also consider options for socially active seniors, the residential home setting and the caregiver’s perspective.
